We had to run Emma to Walmart for an eye appointment today. While we there we decided to stock up on some things that we needed. The kids’ priority though was picking out their prizes for reaching their next level on their bookworms. This part took the longest as we went up and down every toy aisle trying to find something they wanted in the price range I gave them. $5.00 doesn’t buy as much as it used to. Emma decided on a bag of farm animals (she’s our future zoologist or veterinarian); Caleb debated and debated but finally settled on a pack of Hot Wheel cars; Hannah surprisingly finalized her decision first. She chose an archaeologist kit (only 88 cents!!).
At home Hannah couldn’t wait to ‘dig’ into her kit to see what was hiding inside the ‘sand castle’.
It was fun to watch her concentration and excitement. She never gave up trying to get into that castle – it was harder than I thought it would be. Finally a piece broke off the bottom to expose the bottom of a statue. Hannah’s excitement just kept building.
Finally the entire statue was out and Hannah relished in brushing it off like a pro. She then spent the rest of the day playing with her statue, getting just as much enjoyment out of it as the other kids were getting from their chosen prizes.

I love this! I think it is great when something so small and inexpensive can give such satisfaction!
Caleb had something similar to this, only it hid dinosaur bones that we had to put together once they were uncovered. He lasted oh, about 2 minutes before we began just pouring water on it to dissolve the sand! No patience from either of us on that one 😉
