We read today that there are over 40 shades of green in Ireland. This fact surprised me, but after spending the entire day driving through green I tend to agree. We were surrounded by fantastic beauty as we drove along the western coast through small villages and winding roads. The benefit of driving is the freedom to explore and “get lost†in the small back roads. These roads are lined with overgrowth that creates natural walls to the sides and a canopy over the top (see the picture below). We drove much of the day through back roads just like this one – barely large enough for the small car to fit through with cars on the other side, let alone large trucks that frequently pass. Luckily, my left-hand driving skills have improved significantly.

The highlight of the day was the Dingle Peninsula. Dingle is a small town towards the end of the peninsula that has become a popular tourist destination, but maintained its small town charm. Further to the west of Dingle are kilometers of lush green fields, cliffs, and many rocks. We felt blessed with a beautiful day of sun and no wind; something that the locals say hasn’t happened nearly all year.
