Easter 2010

We found it a little bit different celebrating Easter in England . . . both pros and cons.

  • The Easter Bunny had a hard time finding any sweet things to fill baskets with.  There was more than enough chocolate available, but very little jelly beans or the like.
  • We also had a hard time finding a ham, our traditional Easter meat.  By the time we thought to check the local butcher shop, they were closed for the holiday weekend.  We finally found a ‘ham gammon’ and were pleasantly surprised how it filled in for our honey baked ham we usually had back in the states.
  • We did, however, enjoy a nice 4 day bank holiday as Chris had off ‘Good Friday’ and ‘Easter Monday’.

The kids were none the wiser on any of these accounts, except perhaps having Dad home to enjoy for a couple more days than normal.

The night before Easter morning, Hannah and Cami decided the Easter Bunny needed a treat to enjoy when he stopped by our house.  So, it was decided carrots AND ranch were the perfect treat.  They each left a picture and Hannah asked for his signature, which was happily found there in the morning.

They had a great time waking up Easter morning to an egg hunt inside (as, yes, it was raining outside).

Then got beyond excited for their scavenger hunts to find their surprises, that eventually we had to send them on their own private hunts without the rest of the stampede following close behind.

Cami found a Sleeping Beauty doll in Caleb’s gym bag:

Hannah found a Cinderella doll in the suitcase closet:

Caleb found only a sack with candy in the recycling bag and put on a brave face:

. . . until he opened it up and discovered a new watch:

Emma found some new books in the sleeping bag closet:

and had to dive into them right away, as she ate her Easter Cinnamon Roll.

It was a great day to be together as a family, to contemplate the Resurrection, and to enjoy listening to General Conference together.
