Well, we’ve reached that time again – the time when your power will unexpectedly go off at any moment. I am not exactly sure why this is – something with the heat, something with too much power being drained from its source due to air conditioners, etc. But, we had our first experience for the year last night. We had put the kids to bed where they were winding down reading books while Chris and I were in the office trying to regroup from the day. All of a sudden we were all in the dark. From the kids room we hear, “mmmmmmM…….O……….M!” Then from upstairs we hear, “Huh?” from Emma. So, we calmly (this HAS to be done otherwise Caleb will have a heart attack – it’s all about our reaction to things to keep him calm and sane!) got out the box of flashlights and our battery-operated lantern, tucked the kids all back into bed, opened windows, and then Chris and I knelt at our open window feeling the breeze and listening to how others were reacting to the situation. From across the street we heard a lot of commotion as they all poured out to their front porch. Then as it got darker, “Where are the batteries? I don’t have any batteries for my flashlight!” We just sat there and smiled – it felt so good to be prepared. Then we went to bed early and hoped the power would be on in the morning!

Poor Caleb…I can just see it now, with Hannah running to him, flashlight held aloft: “Don’t worry Slaleb!! I’ll save you!”
No power, no ac, no fun! I like your container idea for flashlights. I need to do that!
