Thanksgiving in Kentucky

fort-knox.jpg

My sister, Helen, and her family hosted Thanksgiving this year at Fort Knox, Kentucky.  They were so great and accommodating as the list of company expanded over a short period of time.  I can honestly say I had never been on an army post and enjoyed being woken up at 5:00 a.m. to the bugle and hearing it again at 5:00 p.m.  There is some sort of comfort in that.

Our 12 hour trek out to KY was fairly uneventful, although this was the repeated statement at every bathroom stop:  “Honey, you take them into the bathroom, I have to make a phone call.”  Evidently business in Europe doesn’t take a vacation for America’s Thanksgiving.  I was glad I snapped this picture of Chris ‘working’ while away from the office.

Here are some of the highlights from our trip:

Emma loved playing with their dog, Kaiser.

Cami – not so much.  Granted, Kaiser is almost taller than she is.

Caleb enjoyed ‘boy time.’

I couldn’t help smiling seeing my brother, Will.  He just made my heart so happy.  Love that guy!
sausage.jpg
He is an avid hunter and brought some of his latest summer sausage for all to sample.  Good stuff . . and spicy!

Of course, we had the best food!  A holiday is never complete without sticky buns.

Russell worked his magic with the turkey.

The dinner spread:

Doesn’t Mason look excited about his turkey leg?!

Truly, the best part was being together as a family.  We were only missing Danielle, Will’s wife, who had to work that day.  I am indeed grateful for my family.  They have all helped me become who I am today and help me to only become a ‘better me.’

The Family

Doesn’t Mom look like a proud matriarch?!

Just for laughs, the process of getting a ‘cute cousin’ photo featuring Landon and Cami:
“Guys, get together for a picture.”

“No, I mean SCOOT together.”

“Now LOOK at ME!”

Not working – let’s try a different area of the house, with chairs scooted together.

“Cami, don’t play with your hair!”

“Ah, so cute!”
