This 4th of July was a great weekend because Chris had half the day off Thursday and all day off Friday. If it weren’t for a few things we were in charge of over the weekend, we would have taken the chance and gone for a real get-away, but we still had fun doing things around our area.
Thursday afternoon we went and saw “Up.” We all enjoyed it and had some great life discussions afterward. I love movies that do that!

Friday we were able to get some things checked off our ‘to-do’ list and then take in some bowling. Emma surprised us by tying Chris for the second game. Her form needs a little work but she has figured out how to work the bumpers for her benefit. Cami wouldn’t let us help her push her ball down the lane and celebrated when she’d knock even one pin down.

Saturday was our first big 4th of July Branch Breakfast. We had a great breakfast and then had a bike parade. The kids were excited and we were so grateful to have this to look forward to and invite some friends to. The kids went around the parade route more times than I can count.

But, definitely the main attraction was the motorcycle that one of the counselors brought out on the end and gave the kids’ rides. My kids were in heaven!

That afternoon we decided to take in a hike. Chris and I were so tired from the branch breakfast but the kids were anxious to go on the hike we had promised, so we took one in close by. You know it’s close when you can still see the city skyline.

We came home for a delicious barbecue. Honestly, I was craving these kabobs all day long!

We finished our meal off by getting some Italian ices for dessert. Chris hadn’t ever experienced these with us so it was a real treat.

We did take in some fireworks but from a distance. We found a big hill and parked the car – next year we’ll have to experience them up close and personal so the kids’ attention will be held for longer than 5 minutes.
It was a great weekend spending time together and celebrating our nation’s birthday!
